Weather in Vietnam

Vietnam has quite complicated climate from North to South and like everywhere around the world, it changed quite allots in recent years. The descriptions below and show you the information and the difference of the weather in different regions in Vietnam. 

Under the sub tropical climate system, Northern of Vietnam have for different seasons, and the autumn (from September to December) is the most pleasant time for people to travel. Nice temperature starting in the north, autumn (September to December) is undoubtedly the most pleasant season. At this time of year it's generally warm (average temps above 20°C), blue sky and sun shine, it is still warm enough for your to swim on the sea and this season is also the best one for taking photograph. The winter (December to February) will be cold and humid, some time the temperature can be lower than 10°C with overcast sky and drizzle. It will be warm up again from March to May in the spring time and this is also good time to travel. From May to August, this is summer time as well as wet season with very humid and hot temperature, sunny and typhoon coming very often. This is lass favor season for traveler to come to travel.

The central coastal area from Quang Binh to Binh Thuan is the typhoon belt in Vietnam, that could receive around 10 typhoons per year, mostly from May to September, each of them last for 3 to 4 days. This is also the area have highest rainfall in Vietnam where the annual rainfall can reach up to 3000mm. the weather in Hue is quite similar to the North of Vietnam with about 2 to 3 Celsius warmer in the winter time. The Hai Van Pass is the climate border of Vietnam, that divide the climate of Vietnam to be 2 different systems: Sub Tropical Climate and typical Tropical climate from Danang to Saigon. In the winter time, the different temperature between Hue and Danang can be 4 to 5 Celsius.

Southern Vietnam weather appears more stable and more predictable. The weather was divided to be the dry season lasts from December to May and the wet season is from May through November. In the wet season, most of the rain falls in the afternoon and appear like the big and quick shower. Daytime temperatures hardly ever fall below 20°C, but sometime reaching 40°C in the hottest months (March to May). But quite surprise, the humidity in the South is lower than the North in the summer time.

When is the best time to travel Vietnam?

The best time to travel to Vietnam is from October to December, when the weather is very moderate and you can enjoy the beautiful Autumn in the North of Vietnam. The second best choice is from Jan to March, when it is quite chilly in the North but the weather is very pleasant and cool in the Central and South of Vietnam. But if you want to travel to the mountain area in the North of Vietnam with beautiful terrace rice field, you need to travel from June to October. This is time for the only crop of rice in the Northern mountain area.

The monsoon season mostly affect in the North of Vietnam between June, July and August with some heavy rain and typhoons. You will see less people traveling to Vietnam in this period and hotels normally have some discount as it is considered to be low season. The typhoon sometime affected to the boat trip on Halong Bay or the flight as well. In this seasons, you still can take some short tour in the North or the South, the trip to Northern Mountain Area with beautiful terrace rice field or lovely vacation on the beach like Hoi An, Nha Trang, Mui Ne or Phu Quoc are highly recommended.
